Eagle Rock

A huge boulder overlooks Eagle Rock from the north and the shadow it casts when the sun hits just right gives the neighborhood its name. The eagle, though, isn’t the only reason for its Small Town USA feel. Eagle Rock Blvd and Colorado Blvd are the only main veins where restaurants dotting along give the town its growing, and unassuming, foodie reputation - even if many of them have been around for solid decades. Since 1914, Occidental College has attracted scholars, and additionally, artists have also felt the draw. There’s a refreshingly slower pace, compared to the rest of LA, that completes the Craftsman house and Spanish bungalow setting.

If you’re visiting from out of the country or you’d just like to buy gifts unique to the U.S., then you’ll probably want to add this boutique to your list. In addition to an e-commerce site, which has been firmly established to promote high quality Made in America products, The Made in America Project is now also running it’s first brick and mortar (technically in Eagle Rock, but a short shot to the hub of Highland Park) “where American-made designs are shared, celebrated and sold.” You’ll find a range of various products: apothecary, homewares, jewelry, clothing, kids’. Their vision is simple; support home grown American goods through the shop.
