Downtown

Aveiro is one of the most beautiful cities of Portugal and is located on the coast. The downtown is known for the numerous lagoon canals, the colorful Moliceiro and the typical sweet “Ovos Moles”. Its architecture is inspired by the “art neveau” and Aveiro is a member of "Réseau Art Nouveau Network" as Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest, Glasgow, Helsinki or Havana. “Ovos Moles”, sweet or salted “tripas”, the stew of eels, the fish and seafood dishes are required menus in your gastronomic journey. You can get to know Aveiro Downtown on foot or by BUGA (free public bikes).

Praça do Peixe

Praça do Peixe has some of the most typical neighborhoods of Aveiro, such as the neighborhood of Beira Mar. It is the main area of the city in terms of restaurants and nightlife. The ideal place to have a drink and enjoy a sunset by the Ria of Aveiro channels. This area holds the flea market, academic nights and one of the most important religious festivals of Aveiro: St. Gonçalinho, filling the streets with musical entertainment every evening of the event, and which is carried out the well-known tradition "cavacas rain" (cavacas are tossed from the top of the church for people to catch up on the streets).
