Downtown

Downtown or the City Centre is the 5th district of Budapest located within the Small Boulvard. However, in a wider sense, the areas within the circle of the Grand Boulvard are also called the city centre. Here you will find the Medieval walls of the Old City; this is the most tourist frequented area with the biggest hotel chains, the shopping street, and hundreds of restaurants, bars and cafés. Stylewalker is the design platform of the Hungarian fashion and design shops, showrooms located at the 5th district. Our aim is to give a wide picture of what the local designers have to offer. The head sponsor of Stylewalker is the Municipality Of Belváros - Lipótváros.

PALOMA Artist Courtyard came alive in 2004, when a group of young artists persuaded the V. District Municipality to support the establishment of a new cultural project in the abandoned bottom floors of the derelict building. Part of the agreement was the reconstruction of the dangerously rusty central staircase which is now regarded as the main ornament of the house.

The house has its own story certainly; it was built in 1894 by János Wagner, who was the founder of a prestigious architectural dynasty. The building, renowned for its eclectic style and impressive interior archways, was originally destined to serve as a town house for the architect’s extended family. János Wagner celebrated the 50th anniversary of his architectural career in the year the building was completed.
