Nestled betwixt Downtown (proper), the Arts District and, ahem, Skid Row, to form a misfit tetrad of walkable neighborhoods, Little Tokyo is home to your next favorite restaurant coffee shop bar spot. Est. 1886 (i.e. in LA terms, pre-historic), it’s one of few remaining US Japantowns, and the well-documented taciturn cultural pride has protected its authenticity, skewing it less tourist-trap and more Taste of Tokyo.
What used to be Woori market is now Little Tokyo Marketplace where you will find fresh Japanese and Korean cuisine as well as mainstream American food. The food court is great for grabbing a quick sushi or sashimi lunch and a treat from the bakery. The seafood department has an affordable variety and a quality meat selection. You will find yourself exploring the aisles discovering new spices, sauces, snacks and maybe even a bottle of sake to take home.
