Pacific Palisades

Pacific Palisades has been called the Mayberry of Los Angeles, perhaps because of it's isolated, small-town feel, or perhaps because it is overwhelmingly white. Whatever the case, this sleepy, mostly residential neighborhood has a few hidden gems that are often overlooked and worth the extra 15 minutes past Brentwood or Santa Monica it takes to get there. It also has some serious architectural street cred as the site with the densest cluster of Case Study Houses (among many other mid-century homes in the area), and perhaps most alluring are its preponderance of incredible beaches, parks, hikes, and other outdoor spaces.

K Bakery is emphatically a to-go kind of place. The petite space is in a strange little strip mall just steps from where Sunset Boulevard dead-ends into the ocean, but it serves up some of the best snacks in Los Angeles. Just about every dessert or pastry item is delicious—we go for anything lemon, like the lemon bar or the lemon pound cake—but they also have really great chicken pot pies and decent coffee. They have also recently started a "family dinners to go" option with fresh, seasonally prepared dinners available for pick-up and delivery. We recommend getting lunch (and dessert) to go and taking it to Will Rogers Beach just down the road.
