Situated on the land of conquistador Hernan Cortez in a repurposed paper factory, the Soumaya Museum in Plaza Loreto contains a broad body of work ranging from pre-hispanic Mesoamerican art european bronze sculptures and commercial Mexican illustration. The Soumaya collection is widely known for being housed in the beautiful Fernando Romero building in Polanco. However, before that building was constructed, the collection called Plaza Loreto it's home. If you're a history buff, you can view correspondence between the founding fathers of Mexico, read notes on revolutions and study Mesoamerican artifacts. If that is not your cup of tea you can try to interpret the meaning behind the beautiful bronze Dalí sculptures or take a peek into how exactly that kitschy coaster with the aztec warrior painting you saw at the cantina the other night became a reality.
