Uptown

Not long ago, a renaissance of art, food, beverage and a plethora of eager small businesses began transforming this neighborhood, giving like-minded creatives, chefs, artists and entrepreneurs, a place to hone their craft. The preservation of historic landmarks, a rich history of political activism and an active art scene lends itself to a culture of civic pride bringing diverse activity to the heart of Oakland.

The Oakland Ice Center is tucked away on 18th street between the hopping bar scene on Telegraph and an old piano shop on San Pablo. The rink has a bit of a high tech architecture vibe - a large red swooping metal roof with pars of angled steel columns greet you at the front of the building. Inside, the air ducts are painted vivid blue, while the structure is the same bright orange-y red. The Center has two large ice surfaces allowing for frequent public skate times making it easy to stop in, grab some skates, feel the cold air and practice your triple Salchow. If hockey is your jam, join a league or the ice dancers or the curling club. One of only a few ice rinks still operating in the Bay Area the Oakland Ice Center offers a unique activity amidst the bar and restaurant scene of Uptown Oakland.
