Chastain Park

The city’s northernmost tip that still gets to claim ITP status. Built up mostly in the 1940s, the area is largely residential. Chastain has plenty of greenspace thanks to the city’s largest park, full of wooded jogging trails, tennis courts, a horse park, and a beautiful outdoor music venue. But as development ever expands along Roswell Road, new culinary and cultural spots are starting to pop up in this otherwise sleepy area.

One long hallway runs the full length of this old space with doors opening to sunny studio rooms all along its walls. When I first toured I thought, “What is this place? Can I work here?” The Arts Center has a pretty great course listing every season (and, I might add, some of the most affordable adult learning art classes that I have seen in the city; it’s run by the Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs). So if you’re wanting to get awkward with other locals in a nude figure drawing class, this would be a picturesque location and cost-efficient way to do so.
