Chastain Park

The city’s northernmost tip that still gets to claim ITP status. Built up mostly in the 1940s, the area is largely residential. Chastain has plenty of greenspace thanks to the city’s largest park, full of wooded jogging trails, tennis courts, a horse park, and a beautiful outdoor music venue. But as development ever expands along Roswell Road, new culinary and cultural spots are starting to pop up in this otherwise sleepy area.

There is a block in Atlanta where you don’t need 88mph and 1.21 gigawatts to do a little time traveling. Juxtaposed with contemporary and luxurious north Buckhead homes, the Mt. Paran Country Store stands out as a beacon of the past. It’s a seventy-five-year-old convenience store with a hot bar of biscuits and sandwiches. The friendly cashier was excited to tell me that Robin Williams’ movie, A Merry Friggin’ Christmas, was filmed inside the store. If you need a place in the neighborhood to take an Instagram photo worthy of that Lord Kelvin filter, I’d recommend this spot.
