








In 1858, Hermann Berthold established his type foundry in Berlin. The company moved to Mehringdamm 43 in 1868 and stayed there for more than a century. During the 1920s Berthold was the world's biggest type foundry. H. Berthold AG realeased a lot of well known typefaces, e.g. the the famous and broadly used Akzidenz-Grotesk. The company ceased operations in 1993.
