Bergmannkiez

Wine was cultivated in the area in the past. Today, you sip cocktails in small bars. Berliners and tourists stroll along the streets in the Bergmann hood. There are small shops, delicious restaurants and surprises in the third courtyards. Breakfast is served until 4 pm at sidewalk tables in the summer, while in the winter time everyone strengthens themselves with calorie-bombs in the cafes. The restored Wilhelmine period facades are very popular with international film teams.

Marheineke Markthalle (Markthalle XI) in the Bergmann Kiez is one of 14 former municipal market halls that were build in the end of the 19th century. It was destroyed in the war and partly rebuilt in the 50s. In 2007, it was completely redesigned and houses small warm food and grocery stands now. The Monotype crew loves to come here for lunch. You can choose between burgers, Spanish, Italian, Greek, German and Vietnamese food. Not to forget the French stand. And if you are there, don’t forget to grab a coffee at the Italian place. Freshly brewed by the owner, it is one of the best coffees in Berlin!
