Lichtenberg

At first sight the industrial area „Herzberge“ in Lichtenberg seems to be rough, dusty, ruined and desolate. Even though It is only twenty minutes away from the city center, you will feel a little bit as if you have gone astray. Between recycling yard, scrap and car dealers are today small niches, where you can find galleries and artist´s studios. Previously the area was a large industrial area, with a variety of state-owned enterprises of the former GDR. Today these abandoned factories and buildings get new usage concepts by artists, designers and musicians. But you can still find hints to the past history at nearly each of the places. Because many things are still improvised and imperfect it is a perfect contrast to the crowded places of the city.

Fennpfuhlpark

Address
5 Anton-Saefkow-Platz

In between the prefab estate at the end of Herzbergstraße is the large green area of Fennpfuhlpark. The park consists of two little lakes that derived from the ice age but were artificially modified. A fountain is pouring out water in high bows that leaves a fine nebula of water drops forming rainbows when the sun is shining. In the whole area you will find a couple of sculptures, they were created by sculpturers in the 1980s under the motto „poetry and city“.
