East Williamsburg

With a mix of apartment buildings, warehouses, and converted artists lofts, East Williamsburg is part gritty industrial area and part rising creative quarter. Often mis-identified as Bushwick, and sometimes colloquially referred to as Morgantown or Robertasville, East Williamsburg is quickly developing an identity of its own. With plenty of street art, hidden away DIY spaces, historic buildings, tech enterprises, and trendy new shops, East Williamsburg is a place of constant flux, and a happy home for many a self-made creative individual with hustle and heart.

The loom is sort of a DIY mini-mall. It's a collective of galleries, stores, and public establishments with storefronts on three sides of the building but all connected by an interior L-shaped corridor on the inside. There's a cafe (Kavé), a tattoo parlor (Gnostic Tattoo), a bike shop (North Brooklyn Cycles), a gallery (Amos Eno Gallery), a yoga studio (Loom Yoga Center), a screenprinting studio (Silky's Skate Shop), a pet store (Bushy Tails), a CSA (Bushwick Food Coop), a nice outdoor courtyard and more. One unique spot that lives in the Loom is The Brooklyn Creative Studio, a classroom and boutique for all things crafty and homemade, where you can pick up supplies and know-how on sewing, soap making, beading jewelry, baking, quilting, candle making and just about anything else. It's like Pinterest came to life.
