The name 'Brunswik' emerged in 1350 for the first time and is assumed to be older than the City of Kiel itself. 1869 it was suburbanized to Kiel, including the areas Blücherplatz, Düsternbrook and the adjacent district Ravensberg. Today Brunswik is – next to the city center – the most favorite shopping area and houses many cultural, academic or medical facilities as well as several ancient monuments.

The theater of the student union Kiel, in the hexagon-building of the Christian-Albrecht-University, is a permanent institution since the 1950s. Throughout the year performances of alternating ensembles – all under the guidance of students – are shown. The repertoire ranges from classics to modern musicals, concerts, readings, screenings and live audio drama – a must see for everyone who's interested in the performance arts.
