Clerkenwell – an ancient parish of London that was once home to the Knights Templar now has a rich design history. The Evening Standard claims that the area has more creative architects in one square mile than anywhere else on the planet. Between the creative studios and furniture showrooms you'll find some of the best coffee in London, amazing pubs and food from every corner of the world.
Designed by Berthold Lubetkin and built between 1932–35 Finsbury Health Centre in a rare piece of British Modernism, tucked away in Clerkenwell, just off Exmouth Market. It's a working NHS site, so inside isn't so wonderful but the structure, the thinking that defines the way the space is organised is inspiring. Worth a fly-by visit.
