Kensal & Queen's Park

A more subdued adaptation of the counter cultural hotspot it was in the 1960s, Kensal Green offers an eclectic mix of leafy suburban sophistication with a young and trendy feel. Once named by Vogue as “the hippest street in Europe”, Chamberlayne Road sits between Queen’s Park and Ladbroke Grove, boasting an array of boutique independent shops, pubs and restaurants. Traditionally a popular reside for those in the media and creative industries, Kensal has seen an influx of a more diverse crowd yet retains a strong community feel.

Tom Dixon's Water Tower

Address
344 Ladbroke Grove

This disused water tower has been renovated by Tom Dixon along with Peter Harris from studio SUSD, extending the circular structure in order to celebrate its brutalist form. It was built in the 1930s and used to store 5000 gallons of water in case a nearby gas structure caught fire. The tower now has three floors of living space connected by spiral stairs and offering views of Portobello, Trellick Tower and Kensal Green cemetery. The project was intended as a design exercise and has previously been listed on airbnb.
