London Fields & Broadway Market

Connecting Shoreditch to Hackney Central, the long stretch of Broadway Market and London Fields covers a large, busy and predominantly green area of East London bustling with activity all year round. But the area offers more than just the famous weekend market and BBQ area on the park, look closer and you'll find a genuine a slice of old East London rubbing shoulders with the newer wave of independent makers and doers.

The Lock, Canal & Gasworks

Address
16-29 Andrews Road

When you have your coffee, street food, books, clothes and flowers you're going to need somewhere to relax for a bit. Luckily at the bottom of the market runs Regents Canal offering ample space to sit and people watch. Many of the boats open their doors and turn into libraries, tea shops and even impromptu gig venues on the weekends meaning there is never a dull moment. A short walk down the canal you can see the disused gasworks, an icon of the East London landscape, offering the perfect Instagram image to let everyone know where you are. The detail in one of the structures in particular is extremely impressive with Roman-like columns and details forged into the steel work. No wonder there has been a local petition in recent months to keep them standing and convert the space below into a local park rather than to demolish them and sell the land for development. Let's hope they keep standing for another 100 years.
