A former industrial hinterland located between the Mile End and Parc-Extension neighbourhoods, Mile-Ex is a thriving enclave of artists, small businesses, adventurous restaurateurs, as well as the city's more cutting-edge architecture and design studios. The area carries a raw authenticity that's hard to find in other parts of town.
North America's largest open-air market
Montreal is one of only 2 places in North America to be listed by Copenhagenize as a world-class cycling city, with good reason. Bike paths can be found throughout the city and Route Verte 1 is a unique bike artery that goes from the Ontario border all the way to the Gaspé peninsula. It also connects Mile-Ex to the Plateau neighbourhood and the rest of the city on the other side of the tracks. The active train tracks are a Montreal myth onto themselves, serving as a graffiti gallery, venue for DIY dance parties, and fodder for a popular Facebook group.
