Long Island City

There's no question that Long Island City (LIC for those in the know...) is the cultural center of this incredibly vibrant borough. Only minutes away from midtown Manhattan, LIC boasts many fantastic museums, parks, restaurants, and an amazing array of affordable boutique hotels. Anyone with an eye for design should keep LIC at the top of their places to visit list, especially for those wanting something slightly "off" the grid.

With all that has changed in LIC over the past decade, The Creek & The Cave encapsulates the area's amazing transformation. Once a simple dive bar and a quasi-Mexican restaurant famous for dishes like "the stoner's special," this has grown to become one of NYC's preeminent comedy venues. Still a great spot for California-style Mexican (sadly, no "Stoner Special"), the Creek offers many vegan choices, great margaritas and a fantastic outdoor space. There's a friendly cat there to boot, if that's your thing. If not, there are pinball machines to keep you occupied. Now for the comedy. There are over 150 live performances each month, and it's not unusual for stars like Louis C.K. or Jerry Seinfeld to drop by to try out new material. That's some seriously funny business.
