Old San Juan

More than a city, Old San Juan is it’s own little world. The city is full of restaurants, historic sites, bars, markets, museums and stores. Narrow cobblestone streets are adorned by colorful buildings and spacious town squares. Its history goes back to 1521, making it the oldest settlement in Puerto Rico. Overall, the mix of its colonial heritage and contemporary establishments makes Old San Juan an extraordinary place to visit.

The San Juan Bautista Cathedral, was originally constructed out of wood in 1521. After being destroyed by a hurricane it was rebuilt in 1540 in a neoclassical style. Inside the cathedral you’ll find the tomb of legendary Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León, as well as a shrine to the first Puerto Rican and Caribbean- born layperson to be beatified.
