Now Europe’s largest listed building, Park Hill was built during Sheffield’s post-war makeover. Its concrete ‘streets in the sky’ replaced overcrowded slums and everything was pretty utopian for a while, until it wasn’t. Sharing the optimism of its 1960s architects, regeneration company Urban Splash have taken on the gradual task of helping the estate find a new lease of life. S1 Artspace’s contemporary art gallery is currently stationed here, and there are a couple of its flats on Airbnb if you’re keen to spend the night. Like anyone in Sheffield, you’ll either love it or hate it. Photos by Will Roberts.
