The history of St. Petersburg started with the Petrogradsky district. This area began in May 1703 when Peter and Paul Fortress was built here on Zayachy Island. The oldest botanical garden in the Russia. It was founded by Peter the Great in 1714. Here was grown medical plants. Today garden consists of over 7500 plants. You can see different vegetable life depending of the season.
