The Hare Escaping Flooding

Every time you go to the Peter and Paul Fortress across Ioannoskiy bridge, you certainly see a crowd of people at the left edge of the bridge. They all admire the city mascot — a tiny sculpture of a rabbit. The monument is not something that is very beautiful. But there is a belief — if you get a coin into it, so as it stays at the rabbit podium, your wish comes true. This mascot has its magical properties for a reason - according to the legend, 300 years ago an alive eared creature jumped into the boot of Peter the First, trying to escape from the flood. The entire island, on which the Peter and Paul Fortress is situated, was named in honor of this lucky animal — Rabbit Island (Zayachy Island).
