Barracks Row & Eastern Market

Barracks Row, a small neighborhood to the southeast of Capitol Hill, has a history as old as the city itself. It was the first commercial area in the District and was built around the Marine Barracks, which it was named after. Within just the past few years there has been a significant restoration movement in Barracks Row, drawing the presence of entrepreneurs, artisans, and small businesses.

Ambar is a fun Balkan restaurant with a great happy hour. The food is authentic, with dishes like stuffed cabbage, pickled veggies and smoked sausages, and their breads are all made in-house. Their attention to detail in both the decor and presentation is world class. Local Tip: Head up to the roof deck bar in back for $4 cocktails and unique Balkan bites in a trendy greenhouse atmosphere.
