Pilsen

On the verge of gentrification for the past 20+ years, Pilsen remains truly authentic, staking its' claim as Chicago's most colorfully embellished, ethnically diverse and culture-rich 'hood. Just southwest of the loop it is loaded with hidden gems and houses some of the cities most creative residents ... all camouflaged beneath layers of brilliant grafitti and street art (many of these works pictured below).

Its hard to call what Dia puts out as street food. While they are corn husk wrapped, the fillings are anything but expected and super delicious. They are stuffed with unconventional, globally-flavored fillings such as roasted pepper and goat cheese, coconut curry chicken, and even chocolate peanut butter. These are chef-made tamales with farm sourced ingredients, not the mom-made ones (also super delicious and worth a try) found on many of the corners around here.
