Pilsen

On the verge of gentrification for the past 20+ years, Pilsen remains truly authentic, staking its' claim as Chicago's most colorfully embellished, ethnically diverse and culture-rich 'hood. Just southwest of the loop it is loaded with hidden gems and houses some of the cities most creative residents ... all camouflaged beneath layers of brilliant grafitti and street art (many of these works pictured below).

The Pleasant House Pub is one of the most unique places you'll find in Pilsen due to its British roots. Owner Art Jackson grew up in a cottage of the same name (minus the pub, of course) in Yorkshire, England before starting the eatery with his wife in 2011. The pub specializes in English Royal Pies—delectable, savory pies made with fresh meat and vegetables. Whether you're just sitting at the bar for a drink or sharing a meal with a group of friends, the charm of the Pleasant House cannot elude you. It's a little piece of England right here in Pilsen, and I can't wait to go back and try a new flavor of Royal Pie.
