The oldest cemetery in Grand Rapids (1838) Fulton Street Cemetery is the resting place of some of the city’s original pioneers and philanthropists. Names you might know? John Ball (of John Ball Zoo and grave marked by a giant boulder) and Joel Guild (the first non-native settler in Grand Rapids). With a heavy tree canopy and a dirt road winding through the middle, this park is a perfect escape for a slightly-creepy but serene solo walk. On occasion, the city holds free walking tours of the cemetery led by a local historian but check first before you make plans the hours can be mysterious.
