If you want to an easy way to identify Miami natives, just sing the jingle, "We all grew up on McArthur". Those born and raised here will be the ones wearing instant smiles. In Miami, anyone of a certain age truly did grow up on McArthur - it's been a dominant force in the market since its founding in 1929 by J. Neville McArthur. In the early 1950's, McArthur built the dairy plant, the most modern in the country at the time. The 1950's were a particularly good for McArthur - along with his new facility he had the largest single dairy herd in the world, and demonstrated his local pride and commitment to his community with a $1 million donation to the University of Miami (the equivalent of over $10 million in 2016.) While visitors can't enter the building (it is, after all, an operating dairy processing plant), it's worth a drive-by on the 2nd Avenue side for a glimpse at the well-preserved Miami Modern (MiMo) architecture alone.
