Whittier

Art. Food. Culture. Repeat. The Whittier neighborhood is a vibrant platform for emerging artists, family run eateries, diverse cultural influence and incredible authenticity. "Eat Street" (Nicollet Avenue) is home to a gamut of restaurants inspired by Vietnamese, Hispanic, Mediterranean, Caribbean tastes, among others. Grab a coffee at 10pm, wander the galleries tucked off of the main drag, and when it's nice out, make sure to take advantage of the plentiful open-air dining options and watch the mix of worlds collide.

If you are a sucker for a seasonal berry-laden pancake at twilight and a malt to wash it down, this is the place for you. Not only does the Bad Waitress offer some updated American favorites, but it has a full espresso and coffee bar offering for those that are on the go. The decor is bright, pulpy, and energetic -- with superhero tags on every table and vintage movie posters adorning the walls. There is a jukebox in the center of the dining room where you can plug and play your favorite 80s ballads. Just remember that here, you order at the register, not at the table. The Bad Waitress sources organic and local ingredients wherever possible, and is happy to celebrate where your food comes from, so you can order happy, knowing both your burger and your faux-sloppy-joe are coming from a good place.
