Midland

Midland is an eclectic and multicultural mix of producers, restaurants and small retailers. It's a haven for second hand shopping, craft supplies, and the emerging coffee scene will give any inner-city hub a run for its money. The town itself was established in the late nineteenth century and boasts a collection of historic buildings, including the iconic Midland Railway Workshops. A twenty five minute train ride north-east of Perth will take you directly to the town center. However, if you do decide to drive, an extra ten minutes north will land you on the doorstep of the Swan Valley's wine region.

Ishikiya Japanese Restaurant is tucked into the side of Midland Gate Shopping Centre, opposite a row of heritage buildings. While Ishikiya serves a range of dishes you would expect to find on a Japanese menu, the restaurant has innovative and seasonal specials, which means there is always something new to try. The last time I went I had a delightful and fresh tofu and avocado salad, perfectly crisp and seasoned to perfection. What I look forward to the most every time I go is the cheesecake. Yes, Ishikiya is a Japanese restaurant. Is cheesecake something you would expect from a Japanese restaurant? Probably not. Don't ask questions, just order some dessert. Keep an eye on Ishikiya's [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/Ishikiya-Japanese-Restaurant-545802575468719/) page for special events including visiting Japanese chefs or five course feasts matched with sake.
