Barrio Logan

Barrio Logan has long been a colorful bastion for the working-class Mexican and Chicano community in San Diego. Today it still holds strong to these roots, while embracing and also resisting aspects of change. Despite hotly debated questions surrounding gentrification, Barrio Logan is rapidly being recognized for much more than the world-class murals painted on the undercarriage of the Coronado Bridge. Long gone are the days of Barrio Logan being perceived as a strictly Mexican and industrial neighborhood. Barrio now embraces an ethnically diverse group of residents, artists, businesses, and institutions.

The building that Por Vida is connected to is actually a curated network of small businesses and creative studios called La Vecindad (The Neighborhood). La Vecindad also houses Beat Box Records, and a hidden vintage store with some glorious treasures, San Diego Vintage. Bernie started with selling records online and accumulated a big enough collect to open this shop. Their main thing is selling records at prices that make sense, and that are meant to be played. Don’t miss the $1 section in crates on the floor.
