The things that make this neighborhood special are the same things that have kept the masses away for so many years. Criss-crossing train tracks. Planes roaring over rows of warehouses. A backdrop of shipping cranes. It's this timeless grit and industrial chic that has given rise to a flourishing community of restaurants, bars, breweries, art galleries, photo studios, and coffee shops. There is no veneer. It's as real as Seattle gets.
The SODO branch of Macrina Bakery is a great stop for a sweet treat with some delicious coffee or a quick lunch. The large, open space is also home to their bread and pastry kitchens, where you can see their bakers working away. Their selection of desserts and breads change with the seasons and are always baked fresh.
