Rough, off-beat and beautiful, Darlinghurst encapsulates urban life in Sydney. This whole-in-the-wall neighbourhood used to house Sydney's most infamous crime gang, the Razors. Today it offers some of the city's best small bars and Italian restaurants. If you're lucky, you can (probably) still grab a piccolo with Australia's version of Tony Soprano.
Get in early to grab a homemade cinnamon bun with a batch brew.
Fair prices, a back garden and BYO.
It's easy to lose track of time in here, so make sure you allow plenty of time to peruse the shelves!
A community into itself, you can pick up local veggie boxes on Wednesdays, listen to live music in the basement at Downtown Bar most nights and enjoy a great wood fire on cold nights. Go for the daily omelettes and Sunday roasts. All food comes from within a 150km radius. Underneath The Commons restaurant is Downtown Bar in a sandstone basement, you can hear live blues and jazz while nursing some delicious cocktails.
