Commercial Drive

Where to begin with describing the Drive? It's brash. It's got opinions. The pedestrians are anything but and will walk into the street as if every day is Car Free Day. Located in Vancouver's east side, the neighbourhood officially known as Grandview-Woodland has been the nexus of a wide variety of different ethnic and cultural groups since its heyday as a Vancouver's counter-culture scene. Since then it has seen waves of first Italian, then Portuguese, Latin American and East Asian immigrants settling and making the neighbourhood home. It's not so much a melting pot and more of a Jackson Pollock painting with each blob of paint be it Chinese, Ethiopian, lesbian, or crust-punk adding its own unique voice and presence to a larger whole.

Vancouver has experienced a sort of beer renaissance (a beeraissance) in recent years with a massive amount of microbreweries opening throughout the city and surrounding areas and unleashing a vast array of different beer varieties for the thirsty consumer to try out. That’s where St. Augustine’s comes in. Named after the patron saint of beer, this tap house boasts over 60 different taps offering a curated and ever changing selection of the area has to offer. Their website even has a live beer menu showing how much of each beer is available!

So whether you’d like a hum drum lager or an exciting lambic there’s probably a beer you’d like here. Also, as it has come to be expected in this city, there’s also very delicious food to temper the torrent of alcohol you pour down your gullet.
