Cabbagetown

One of the east side art districts, Cabbagetown sits adjacent to Atlanta's oldest graveyard, Oakland Cemetery. Built in the late 1800's, this historic district is the location of the South's first textile mills, the Fulton Bag and Cotton Mill. And like most mill towns, the streets are extremely narrow, with short blocks and many intersections. Perfect setup for an artsy spot with hot real estate.

In the central part of the neighborhood, Cabbagetown Park was once the location of an Elementary School that was shut down in 1976. The land was secured by the neighborhood and the park was completed in 2005. It a gorgeous area with a lot of green space, and you're sure to see a lot of dogs. Each November, the neighborhood hosts its own Chomp and Stomp Bluegrass Festival, a competition of local chilis. If you're into an adrenaline rush, stop by for the Fourth of July fireworks.
