Fort Point

Named for a colonial-era fort of cannons that once protected the harbor, Fort Point was first developed in the 1830s. 19th century buildings, once used for the manufacture & storage of trade goods like wool, became home to a community of artists known as the Fort Point Arts Community. A popular destination in recent years, this dynamic neighborhood is bursting with activity: architecture & design studios, converted warehouse condos, trendy eateries, art galleries and more, all while maintaining a distinctly Boston historic texture.

After nearly 120 years on Newbury Street, “SAC” has moved to a contemporary, spacious new spot in Seaport. Considered the preeminent arts and crafts gift shop in the Boston area, the Society also has a long-standing history of supporting and promoting contemporary craft artists. If you’re looking for that truly artisan piece of jewelry or home décor, this is the place to go. But also don’t leave without checking out the rotating (and often mind-blowingly incredible) art exhibitions—all of which have a focus on fine craft. A happy addition to SAC’s new home, the artist-in-residence studio gives visitors an opportunity to engage directly with the visiting artist & learn more about their technique.
