Greater Sharpstown encompasses an area of approximately 10 square miles; bounded by the Westpark Tollway to the north, 59 and Bissonnet to the south, Beltway 8 to the west, and Hillcroft to the east. For us, it's pretty much about the rich food scene. Generally speaking, you will find predominantly South Asian establishments near Hillcroft and 59, where a bronze Ghandi monument marks the entrance to the newly established Mahatma Ghandi district. As you head further west through the district you head east on your culinary adventure. Running for miles along Bellaire Boulevard is Chinatown which boasts hundreds of restaurants and shopping malls frequented by people of different ethnicities. We approached the task of documenting this neighborhood with great zeal but were soon daunted by the dizzying array of options. Our list is only the tip of the iceberg, there is simply so much to discover in this thriving international community.
Arts + crafts like crazy!
Our go-to icy dessert spot when in the neighborhood. Bright little clipboards sit by the register for patrons to select size, flavors, and sides. This ice absorbs flavors like no other shaved ice we've tried and without the artificial aftertaste. The texture is as fine as snow and appears as layers of folded ribbons on the plate. Nu also offers a selection of exotic smoothies, green and milk teas, and other beverages.
