Intendente & Anjos

For years the neglected child of central Lisbon, Intendente is enjoying a lively rebirth. Known for its rough edges, shady economic activities and its multicultural ambience, it's now embracing grit in a positive way. The neighborhood includes one of the city's biggest estates of late 19th century Portuguese-style architecture. Gentrification is well underway, but it is balanced with a thriving activist and cooperative scene. This unique national movement was reborn after the depression because the country's youth didn't give in under tough circumstances.

Brick Cafe

Address
2 Rua de Moçambique

Brick is London meets Lisbon. They are responsible for the boost of brunch culture in the city, and they're still the most iconic. While competition is definitely sprawling now, the café holds its crown confidently, by being the most unique. Besides the usuals eggs, bakery and fruit, mix in some portuguese style octopus salad, cold meats from the Alentejo region and “peixinhos da horta“ — a green bean tempura meaning garden fishes —, and you got an unbeatable recipe.
