Pasadena is the ninth-largest city in Los Angeles County- and the second oldest (incorporating in 1886). It is home to the Tournament of Roses, ArtCenter College of Design, Caltech, JPL, many museums and artists (including the author of this post!). It is nestled below the San Gabriel mountains on the northeast side of Los Angeles. It feels more like an east coast town with big houses on wide streets canopied with trees. It is about 20 minutes from downtown Los Angeles and thus provides a low-key, suburban hideaway without losing any of the flavor of city life.

Sugarfina is a beautiful concept and execution of a luxury candy store. It is Willy Wonka's pompous aristocratic cousin. If you don't buy anything- at least wander in and get a taste of a few things. Last time I went in I tasted champagne gummi bears and some sort of chocolate covered rum candy that you actually need to be over 21 to try. But aside from the alcohol inspired candies are a huge assortment of imaginatively and deliciously inspired treats. This is another great dinner party gift idea that will be sure to make you the most popular person around.
