The East Village has been many things: punk rock, hardcore, gangster, folk, anti-folk, Nuyorican, experimental, beat, post-modern, Warholian. It even hit Broadway in Rent. Today, developers are trying to move in but locals are fighting to hold their ground in Alphabet City.

Caracas is a small restaurant focusing on the Venezuelan speciality, the Arepa. We’ve probably tried every Arepa on the menu and they are all good. Although small, the turnaround is pretty fast. If you can’t squeeze in you can call ahead and get your order to-go and eat at Tompkins park. Don’t forget the special sauce!
