Downtown & Old Oakland

Known for the historic brick buildings built in the 1800’s and the Tribune Clock Tower, this area offers great eateries and local brews. People often visit to explore the Oakland foodie scene in a slower pace setting where street food is served up restaurant style and communal tables are the standard. Artisans here revel in the grittiness and ever-changing culture in this deep-rooted part of Oakland, offering something for everyone.

This tiny lunch spot is a hidden gem serving daily specials with Sri Lankan and Jamaican flavor flair. Locals love this spot because the owner and her family serve up the food themselves and offer hot plate specials for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Their dishes range from jerk chicken, Caribbean style chicken roti burritos to curry lentils and brussel sprouts with tofu. Each plate has a variety of zest from spicy curries to the tangy pineapple chutney served on every dish. They also serve sandwiches, soups and salads but we would definitely recommend their daily special if you’re looking to be adventurous.
