During the 18th Century this area was called “The barn courtyard” and it was here the king grazed his cattle. Much has happened since then. Today Östermalm is the Upper East Side of Stockholm, where the rich and famous live. And it’s easy to tell by the area’s luxury shopping and dining. A Östermalm classic since 1888, this indoor marketplace is a hot spot during lunch hours for all the businesses in the area. This is also the place where locals buy fresh produce for their weekend dinner parties. You can find all the classic Swedish food here, so why not stop by for a plate of meatballs with mashed potatoes and gravy at Husmans deli, or try something from the sea like a Skagen toast at Lisa Elmqvist.
