Schöneweide

Though not one of Berlin’s most visited tourist spots, Schöneweide, a district located a 30 minute train ride south east of the city center, is definitely worth a visit. Especially those who are into design and architecture will enjoy this corner of Berlin. You can spot famous industrial architecture, homes to experimental art, design workshops and co-working spaces within a genuine urban neighbourhood where gentrification barely happened yet. It’s no surprise that even internationally renowned artists like Ai-Weiwei have been looking for space in Schöneweide.

The Funkhaus Nalepastraße is a listed building complex in Berlin’s district Oberschöneweide. From 1956 to 1990, the broadcast of the GDR was based here. Since the settlement it’s called the complex Funkhaus Berlin. Today the Funkhaus represents the artist scene in Schöneweide by providing several studios for creatives and irregular events in it’s charming “time standing still” halls.
