The Vanderbilt is a neighborhood staple that sits near the top of our list. When you first enter, you’re immediately greeted by its rustic ambience and lengthy, marble bar. Throughout the space you’ll find still lifes made up of vases of farm flowers, mason jar candles, glass vessels of berries and citrus wedges, books and potted plants. However, The Vanderbilt is really about it’s chefs. Michelin-starred, executive chef Saul Bolton of Saul restaurant (and more recently, Red Gravy) opened The Vanderbilt over a decade ago with co-owner Ben Daitz. He’s also the creator of Brooklyn Bangers, a line of gourmet sausages and dogs available on the menu and also at Brooklyn Flea, the Barclays Center and Trader Joe’s. For starters, order the Carrot Salami, homemade jerky and definitely do not miss the Snug Harbor Salad - an improvised salad using ingredients provided weekly by Snug Harbor Farm. Then, gorge on the Brooklyn Bangers Sausage Flight including kielbasa, cheddar bratwurst, weisswurst, merguez, chips, chow-chow and pickles.
