The city bills itself as the "Venice of America" but I don't know about all that. It is however, a pretty eclectic area with no shortage of sunshine or things to do. You can kayak through rich people's backyards, wander into a silent disco or find a coffee shop through a bookcase. What it lacks in mega-clubs & overpriced drinks, it makes up for with unique characters and some good vibes.
Fort Lauderdale is littered with waterways and channels, which can make for some great kayaking.
You can get eye level with everything from an alligator to a sea otter.
I have sat with complete strangers at this restaurant who literally smelled their way to the front door from their hotel. Every town has their signature bbq spot, Tom Jenkins' is the one in Fort Lauderdale. Order anything you want, then order some brisket to go.
