Located just north of Old City, Northern Liberties is one of Philly's most popular neighborhoods filled with boutique shops, bars and restaurants. Cheap studio space lured artists from Old City in the 90's and the neighborhood has been in transition since. Now an established neighborhood, Northern Liberties may not be cheap anymore, but it's lure and charm are as strong as ever.
This place is the craft darling of Northern Liberties, and come holiday season, we tend to make it a priority to stop by Art Star first for gifts of the handmade variety. Hip baby items, jewelry, accessories, housewares and art prints—there really is something for men and women of all ages in this adorable shop. And considering that every item is handmade, it should be noted that the level of quality is exceptional: no superglued leopard-print wallets here.
