In Ithaca, Downtown really is down town. Nestled at the bottom of 50 mile long Cayuga Lake and surrounded on three sides by hills, the city center looks up to Cornell University and Ithaca College and the older suburbs. There was a long-sustained rumor that the Little Rascals filmed their boxcar hill run on one of the tree-lined streets that heads straight into town, and when you visit you'll see why that was a hairy ride.

The Cayuga Waterfront Trail is a huge source of pride for locals. Envisioned in three building phases, the end of phase two connects the two parks on the lakefront, Stewart Park and Cass Park, with a 10 foot wide path that takes outdoor enthusiasts past the Farmers' Market at Steamboat Landing and crosses several bridges as it winds throughout the west end of the city and into parkland along the lake, a little over 6 miles end to end. You can skate, run, cycle or walk any part of the trail. This is the best way to go to the Farmers' Market as parking is a huge challenge. The address used is the Ithaca Visitors' Center, where the trail begins, though you can access at any point along the route.
