Downtown Ithaca

In Ithaca, Downtown really is down town. Nestled at the bottom of 50 mile long Cayuga Lake and surrounded on three sides by hills, the city center looks up to Cornell University and Ithaca College and the older suburbs. There was a long-sustained rumor that the Little Rascals filmed their boxcar hill run on one of the tree-lined streets that heads straight into town, and when you visit you'll see why that was a hairy ride.

I have a hard time resisting a good shoe store, and Cobbler's Cottage offers a wonderful selection of European brands and leather goods for the most discerning shopper. Ithaca is a town for walking, so shoe stores around here have to be cognizant of both fashion and function when deciding what inventory to carry. We are a pragmatic people when it comes to our footwear - you never know when you'll want to walk from the library to Cascadilla Gorge - and need shoes that can weather a brisk walk across town. The service is always great - Cindy is a sweetheart - and they do shoe repair as well, so they know where to look for weaknesses in a shoe.
