Kent

Kent, Ohio is an historical town located on the Cuyahoga River twenty minutes east of Akron. It’s best known for Kent State and the events of 1970, but in recent years, the town has been expanding its restaurant scene, community events, and connection to the university, making it an exciting place to live. Known as the Tree City, the best time to be in Kent is fall for the changing leaves, and summer for all of the green—a welcome sight after the cold Ohio winter!

The May 4 Visitor’s Center is an immersive experience to educate guests about the Kent State shootings. Visitors learn about the climate of the 60s, the days leading up to the shooting, and the aftermath of the event. The exhibit does an excellent job of giving multiple perspectives, which encourages dialogue and reflection amongst visitors. The center is located in Taylor Hall, the building next to where the shootings took place.
