NOTA

Neighborhood of the Arts (NOTA) is no doubt the cultural epicenter of Rochester. Back in 2000 it experienced a rebirth when a trail of public art, visual exhibits and installations popped up. ARTwalk, as it was and still is known, catapulted the tired neighborhood into a vibrant, bustling section of town. Now, there is no shortage of art studios, galleries, restaurants, cafes, fitness studios, living spaces, and creative-class businesses occupying salvaged industrial factory buildings and Victorians. NOTA’s diversity of artists, small business owners, and established cultural gems make it a sanctuary for all who want and expect a little more from their community.

This delightfully cozy, family-run diner will make you wish you visited sooner — or more often. The staff treats you like an old friend. The food is downright good and doesn’t cut any corners. Plus, the joint pours good brew and serves real maple syrup — the true measures of any quality diner. The prices will make you do a double-take … think under six bucks for eggs, bacon, potatoes and toast. Jim’s is a great place to start your day … or stop in midday for lunch. Who knows — it could be your Monk’s Café. Or Luke’s if that’s what you’re into
